USA Health Care and Medicine - Part 1

Treating Sickness vs. Promoting Health

I don't know about your experiences with the health care system (hospitals), but I usually go to see the doctor when I am not feeling well. In the United States we think of getting checked out only when something's wrong. This makes sense because none of us want to have to pay money unless we really need to; unless we are really sick.

However, this affects our thinking. It seems that in the United States we think about treating, or fixing, sickness instead of promoting, or encouraging, overall body health. We focus on pills in this country as the cure for everything without putting a lot of thought into how our lifestyles could be healthier.

What are some ways that people might focus more on promoting heath, instead of just treating sickness? Here are just a few ideas:
  • Drinking water - important for many body functions
  • Eating healthy food
  • Daily exercise
  • Seeing a chiropractor or massage therapist once in a while
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Make sure you have time to relax/kick back
  • Hanging out and talking with friends - For Real!! - helps us relax and talk about what's going on in our lives (good and bad) with other people

Do you agree that we focus too much on fixing health problems and not enough on keeping ourselves from having health problems by living healthier?

I realy agree to every thing that was wrttin.Most people just think abou t fixing their illnees but, when they are not sick it does not matter to them because they think that they are healthy and do not need to worry about any sicknees. I think that if we all try to live a healthy live that there would not be as much sick people in the world. All we need to do is make healthyer dicitons and that way we wont be sick and worry about getting sick.
It would also be a good idea idea if we saw a doctor at least ones a month just to make sure that every thing is going good and that there is nothing wrong going on in our body. When we get some kind of desaes we can not feel it until later in the stage. I think the only thing from keepimg use from getting sick id that we do not make healthy choses.

I think that people don't worry about their self unless they're sick. I think that everyone needs to have a check up at least once a month. I understand that not every body have enough money to go see a doctor or don't have a health insurance. I'm a really healthy person and I don't like at all going to see a doctor. Sometimes I feel really tired and with no energy and my parents make me go see a doctor at least once a month. It makes me angry because I'm not sick, and the last time I went to an appointment the doctor told me that I need to quit my job because that's the reason why I'm always tired and with no energy.Its important for everyone to have a check up once in a while because I think that our health its the most important thing.

some thing i would do is trying to keep my self healthy. and if it effect my health when i'm not felling well then it think i should go visit the doctor every time i feel sick because i don't want to put my life in danger. then i would have to pay a lot of money if i do get sick really bad.

I think its important to check the doctors every month or week because you may have a disease and not even know it. Its just better to keep healthy for your body so we don't have to worry a lot.

I believe that a lot of Americans need to work on living a healthier life insted of worring about other things.health is one of the most imporatnt things that we should worry about. I agree with this article because too many people don't take care of their selves. It's important for us to to care more about our health.

Yes, I did agree with what they were saying about focusing too much on fixing health problems and not even careing about owr health probles by living healther. I think thats rigth because some people wont even mind if thier health is good or bad and is not good, what if you have a really bad problem with your health and you dont now maybe it might case something bad for you that can case death. Some thing I could do to promote my health is by going to the doctor to check on how I'am doing with everthing and also to see if I need to do anything so I can be more healther. I would also check if I had any preblems with my health thats how I check on my health.

i agree with this article because it normal like your take care yourself more when you sick. you know, to day people are really busy they do not want to fire, they need to got enought money to pay check every month, that why they do not think about their health, all they support is their family.

I agree with this article. I don't think we spent too much time to think about the healthy life we spent less about the healthy we need to think more about it. The one listed with dots is all good things to do to get healthy life. Like drinking water is important everyone need to drink water everyday. The exercise is important to do every once or twice a week. And get enough sleep so you are ready for school, don't try to do all your homework at once try to finish half the relax then start again. My thing to relax is to listen to music, it makes me relax and it helps.

I thinke that this artical is truth because some people worry abut how they feel. smoe pople are not that sick but they sill go to the doctor because they thike that they need to go to the doctor. one way i keep my self heathy is by eatnig vegetables and water and runing so i don't get seik.

I agree with this article by getting check up and other stuff at least once a month. also try to be healthy, but being healthy doesnt really work out,it only works when you get sick thats the time you care about being healthy. people should start caring more about being healthy because its important to our human bodys

Im trying to do my best to stay out of a doctors hands and to keep myself healthy, some people go to the doctor just for a little think its happened to them but i dont even when im sick because the only thing i dont want to go, im scared of doctors and if i would really be sick i would pay anything to get my health back and to stay healthy...

I think that we should go visite a doctor for a chek up if we feel bad only.But in order to be helthy we should eat alot of fruits vegetables in a healthy way. Go out with your friend's to laugh with your frien's saying jokes or by playing with them some kind of sport.That's a way to be healthy I think.

i agree on everything they say because a lot of people try to be healthy so they don't have to go to the doctors, some of the people don't really like going to the doctor to get a check.

I think people should be more careful when it comes to their health. Instead of coming up with all of these different kinds of medications that can get you sicker why don't we try to lead a healthier life?

In my opinion there are many things that can be done to promote helth or at least to keep it healthy. First thing for example for you metabolism you need to add some kind of exercising to your schedule and have a good eating habit so you can be healthy mentally and physically. Other thing is that for your mind wnd your body to work well you need H20 which includes other kinds of lequids.

I think your right! you dont need pills all the time to be healthy and as well as that you don't need to go to the doctor just when your sick. I think that you should go once a while and just check how your doing. Have the things that are healthy for you and doing some exercising will help as well too!! Play sports "Soccer" for example!! Your body needs to be treated good in every way possible. It's good for you to do the best you can to keep yourself healthy and not getting sick very often. Make healthy choices and be Healthy!!!!

I think that it is true what you said mr. enns becuse if you do exersice you wont feel as bad and you wont have to go to the doctor and if you eat healthy food and exersice alot you wouldfeel good.

I really agree about this.
We should really drink more water, why? because our body is 85% water [or something like that] . Eating healthy well we need all kind of food in different amounts and you should get some knowledge of this. Getting a message well that sounds good. Getting enough sleep seems also great cause that's when your body recovers. Kicking back well yea that sounds good and healthy but you shouldn't do it so much because your brain needs to work, is like a muscle that needs to work out so it can be really strong/smart.

I really agree to every thing that was written. I think its important to check in with the doctors every month or week because you may have a disease and not even know it. I don't think we spent too much time think about the life we spent we should be think more about our health.

I think that we should go to the doctor twice a year. I also think that we should do exercise at least 4-5 hours a week.

yes,i think we focus on more on fixing our sickness and not preventing them.I think the cost of just visiting the doctor is very expensive and we don't have enough money to go some times. But i think that weshould visit the doctoronce in a while, so we can prevent sickness. There are alsomany ways to prevent sickness, people think that it is esier to goand buy fast foodand not make their own healthy food. the waether here is very cold and mostof the year is rainy so people drive everywhere insteadof walking. I think that exercising is a good wayto keepyour body healthy.

Yeah, I think that being healthy no matter if your not sick means a lot. I actually wasn't drinking as much water as I needed for me to go hiking in a 12 mile hike. What happen to me was that I was getting very tired and of course its very tiring but it was even more when you didn't have as much water in your system. I got soo tired I swear I wanted to just quit there and lay on the ground. When I got home from that long and longest trail I ever been to I eat soo much. But I know if me and my partners who went with me had water and food we would of had a smoother hike! So yeah I will advise to use and as much healthy foods you can because it will help you in many things. I also discover that you are in a better move when eating right!!

I agree that we all think that the only cure there is are pill or medicine. That is not true!!!! We should think to make our selfs healthyer we should stop worrying about medication. We should exercize and eat healthy so we don't get sick and we can be healthy, and the way we don't have to be spedding our money in appoinments with the doctor.

I think most of American products not healthy for you, becausee they add too much sugar in our food and lots of preservatives which is not very good for your health. We always afraid to go to the doctor because we think that they are going charge us alot and we are not going to able to pay for it. I think US should make health help free. They may charge people for plastic sergery but not fore medical help because its very important for people who is really in need.

i think it good to check doctor often. because it good for your health. If you get sick then you go to the see the doctor it to late. becuse you already sick. i think everybody want to have a good health. so go check your doctor.!!!

I don't know about it... I think that everybody takes care of them dependig thier culture, for example, in some states in mexico, the people prefer more treat their sickness with plants than go to the hospital... in the USA, most of the people pay a lot of money goint to the hospital...

Well I think to be in good healthy we have to Eating good food like vegetables and do Daily exercise. And some people think that drink a lot of water like 3 gallons of water is good for your body but I think that no true because the thing the we eat already has water like fruits and vegetables and other stuffs so you don't need too much water in your body. :)

I agree with this article because when you get sick like a disease you get worried about your health, but when your normal you don't worry about a thing. If you get really sick you just think that your going to be alright and you don't go to check at the doctors and think that you will be fine.

I think that is very true that people that get sick they go to the clinic right away. And as soon as they feel better they think their health condition is good. I think if we take care of ourselves like by washing are hands, drink lots of water we wouldn't be sick all the time. When I get sick I don't go to the doctor's because to me it's a waste of time all there going to do is give some type of medcine. Which I can take something else at my house and just drink lots of fluids. I understand that it's important to get checked every month just to see how your health conditions are. So people around the should just go to the Doctor's just to get a check up, not just go when your sick.

I think people shouldn't go to the dotor as muck as some people just for some not really good reason!!! Also going to the dotor just three times a mouth should be enough for every human only if you have some kind of sickness.The end of this would be for all of you just to eat health run alot stay in shape thats all bye bye....!!!
