Exercise - The Cure for Depression?

I think we all understand the importance of physical activity for overall health. The problem is that even though we understand it's benfit, we don't exercise very much as Americans. We mostly just sit around. Most Americans don't exercise vigorously. In fact, only 15% of Americans engage in vigorous exercise for 20 minutes 3 times a week.

We all know that exercise helps keep our bodies at a healthy weight, however, exercise is also proven to help the mind. Inactivity (a lack of physical activity) has been proven to lead to depression and dementia (insanity, or "going crazy"). Exercise can also reduce the risk for Alzheimer's disease.

Not all of us are going to experience depression or dementia in our lives, but it is valuable to understand that exercise does more than just help our physical body. It affects our minds, our brains, the thinking center of our bodies. Read this article for more information on how exercise can combat (fight) depression.

What are some ways that you exercise? How much vigorous exercise (minutes, hours) do you get each week? What is something you can do to increase your activity each week (doesn't have to be something huge)?

I think that excercise is one of the most important things to stay healthy.Excercise can prevent many disease like diabetes or obesity. I really like to do exercise not sports but I like running and doing energetic things.Many times people rather stay home and doing nothing then going out for a walk or to hang out ouside of their homes.I work five days a week and 7 hrs and I don't really have free time but when I do I like doing excercise ouside of home and I feel good physically and mentally

i think that is a good idea that we and evry body should exsersies that is waht keeps us alive and healthy.alot of peole insteas of insted of going out side and hang out wight friends like going for a walk or runing doing something active they like to go home and wacth t.v or get on the cumputer and that is really bad.

I think excercise is a very good thing to do to keep u healthy, and if u dont excercise most likely u will get sick. most of the people dont excersise but they just play video games all day and its a bad thing. I dont injoy ecersising but I do that to be healthy, I spent like 5 hours a week excerising.

i think exercise is very good for your body. Today people spent a lot of time for T.V, computer, games,... they don't spent time for exercise. that's why today a lot of kids in US is overweight, but that not all their fail because they have less place to play with friends, and the parents go to work all day and they so tired to play and exercise with their kids.

I think that exercising helps peopel also stay fucist. not all peopel like to exercise, but to some peopel exercising is like some kind of adikton. I spent 8 hours every week exercising.

I do really do not anything to excersie. This isa bad thing because I used to do some excesie right before I would go to sleep. I would do push ups,sit ups and lunges. I always haeted doing lunges because it really hurt. I do not know why I did stop.
I think that it is very importent to be able to move around and be in good health. I really do think that is also effeects the brain. I think because befoe I would be able to work in class and not be so tierd. I think that I should start again. =)

Well I think the Depression is one of the problems for health beccause this making you eat more and more. And alot of kids don't do any type of exsersies and they Prefer play videogames like playstation. so thats why today a lot of kids in US is overweight.
I haven do exsersies for a long time but now a I do a lot of exsersie in my class.

I believe that this info is true and that excercise are very inportant. I agree with Nereydda that excercise can prevent many diseases.Also this info has motivate me to become more active in physical activities.

In my opinion every body shoul exsercice at least alittle bit to keep themselves healthy. Everybody can exercise and you don't even have to think of it as exsersices just include it in your daily routine. For example when you go to work unstead of a car you can even walk or ride a bike if is close enough. and unstead of taking the elevator you can walk up the stairs and just keep a healthy diet.

Well I think that excercise is very importent for us because it can help you forget problems that you have like stress,all type of things that concern you!
Well I work out every two days.Like lift weights,run,well everything that involves ecercise!

I think that if your obese you stick to your own diet plan and make a plan so you can make yourself comfortable to do anything

i think that are lot of teens are forgeting to exercise they are to worrid about tha clothes they wear and the gangs and they need to excercisee is for ther own good

I think that a good ideas i really like to do this because a lot people insteas of going out side going for a walk or runing or something active is most important things to stay healthy. The exsercises that is want keeps us alive and healthy most of the people don't like excersise but they just play games all day but i think is bad sometimes people be healthy that's good. I like running and doing things because help me doing exsercise's. is very good.

i think it is wood idea to excercise every day it keeps you out of drugs. i like to excersice bucause i play soccer and spend aound 5 hours each week.

I Think that exercising is really important to stay healthy. Exercising can be good for many things like for your heart, muscle tone, flexibility and coordination. I also think that children and young adults, exercise is necessary to build strong bones. Some ways I exercise are doing sports and going to the gym and sometimes I walk around the park. I spend 8 hours exercising on weekends but sometims I don't spend as much time exercising because I have to do other things and just don't have time. I think to increase my activity each week I would have to run more.

Excercise is one of important thing everyone should do once or twice a week. The way I excercise is play sports or go to the jim and play basketball, swim, or lift weights. They could go outside and run for like 30 min thats a excercise. Everyone could do something if they try.

Yeah, exercise is a really major thing to do if you want to be healty. I my self go to gym as much as I can. Know that I have a job I can rarely go except on the weekends. Also when I go and work out after words feels great. I don't know why but I feel like more active and fresh. Why?? because I take a shower right after I get done working out! I know some other people that don't work out at all and don't do any type of physical activity!! YOU could see the difference in them! No offense!!! Also just doing this things daily is fun well thats how I find it!!

I think that excercising does help depression alot because in my exprience exercising takes my mind off in alot of things that get me down.

I think that exercising helps a lot i have always belived that. I always do exercising all the time but what i didn't know is that it help prevent depression. WE should all run or go to the gym for half an hour or more it help our body a lot andk also it keeps as healthy. and also in good shape.

I think that exercises is one of the important thing someone can do. i don't do exercise because i don't have no time but i use to when i was a freshmen i use to take p.e but now that I'm in 10 grade i not take it

I think that excercise is very important for people to do aleast 4 times a week. I really don't excercise which i really need to do. The only excercise I get is when I walk to the mini mart by house or when I go to the park. I also walk from school to the max station. Other than that I don't do any other excercise at home. I need to start walking the park at least 3 to 4 times a week. Now I only go once or twice a week I only walk like two laps. If I go 3 times a week I need to walk 3 or more laps around the park. I need to just start drinking water and stop drinking pop. But I hope that people start going to gym or at least go running or walking the park. It's very important for us to stay fit to live a long healthy life.

i think we should exercise every day . because it good for our body. if u don't exercise. when u get older u will have Alzheimer's disease. now a lot teenager always spend time in computer , TV , games and so on. we should exercise every day. do not spend too much time on computer.!!!

Will I think that exercise is better for all of us. if we don't exercise as much then that enrcess the chance of having Diabetes or Obesity. Its good if we exercise or atleast walk around not just stay home all day. It also helps if we eat less and healthy so we decress the chances of Diabetes or Obesity.

I think that if you excercise there's more risk for you to get sick.Especially you can become an over weight teen.And I bet you don't want that do you .So in order for you to be healthy you should go out to play sport's with your friend's.Maybe spent some time with your friend's laughing about joke's.You should also eat healthy food like fruit's vegetables and drink alot of water even if you have to pay Mr.Enns' for the water.Ok because your body need's it so think about it.

i think playing sports and exercising is great for your health and to keep your body in shape. you might get tired but the second day you wake up you feel so great and sore. playing basketball or going snowboarding for me its very easy and i think other people should try it too because i think this it a great sport because it makes you move a lot....

I think that exercising is the key to being healthy. The reason why i say this is because, excersice not only keeps us fit but also helps our mind focus on hats important and be healthier in life. I think that it is true, the fact that it helps with depression because then you really dont need to worry about anything and you just think about yourself and no worries what so ever. I think that excercising at least 3hrs every day a week will help a lot!! At least that's what I think!!

I think that excercise is vreary important and fun my dad run with my brother on the track annd sometimes my sisteer and i go with them and when we come back we play volly ball it is about 7 to 8 hrs a week when we run and play volly ball it is about 5 to 7 hrs a week

I think it is very important to exersice,but not many people do it. I personately do notexersice very often, but i usually walk. But is it not enough just to exercise just once a week. we should also eat halthy food healps our bodies. the weather here is a big factor of why people do not exersice, but we also can exersice in our homes, not only outside.

i dont really work out that much. but i work out three times per week and about 2 hours. i dont run i just do bench. and box i have a punchin bag at home.

I don't really work out that much, but me and my uncle go to the park and play some b ball. He sometimes takes me to Golds Gym and work out. I all so do work outs before school for football. I think exercise is a good thing for all kinds of people.

I think it's very important to exercise. If we exercsie and keep bussy I think there is a bigger chance for us not to have depression. Staying healthy plays a big role in this. We should eat healther to have a better life.
